Ancient History
This page lists some of my music from long, long ago (and even longer ago). If you listen closely, you can hear the dust.
- Music Theory
-
This was the first attempt at that homework assignment. Different instrumentation and a faster tempo.
-
This was my first pass at the next assignment. I didn't like it, so I tried again.
-
This was the next assignment: Create your own motif, then apply motivic variation. There are fleeting moments of intentional dissonance, just for fun.
-
This is a short polyrhythmic jazz theme that I still find realy compelling.
-
Something weird happens with the time signature but it seems to work....
-
- Jazz
-
Nice, swingy jazz. Mute brass, bass, and piano.
-
Think Of Me (Early, airy version)
Four-part soft jazz. Sax, piano, bass and drums. This is the first version, which has breathier (and I think, more interesting) sax. Also written to impress a girl (failed).
-
Wistful jazz. Sax, piano, strings...
-
Up-tempo, piano, sax, and synth jazz.
-
Mellow jazz. I blame Kenny G.
-
Yet more mellow jazz.
-
It's kind of jazz. Really, I just figured I should try to do something with that koto patch....
-
- Soundtrack-ish and Other
-
Not really a huge fan of christmas, but I always appreciated Mannheim Steamroller.
-
Kinda rock bluesy chord sequence. Predictably adds layes over time but has some nice solo-y bits.
-
Acoustic rock and piano. Because, like a lot of guys, I was trying to impress some girl.
-
More misguided, girl-chasing acoustic rock from the long-ago, that eventually resolves into a kind of Allman-Brothers-style riff.
-
String-centric theme that's somewhat dramatic without expressing any obvious motif.
-
When The Rain Falls - First Iteration
From the long, long, long, long ago. Pad (still in the Navy) with a DX7, a Mattel Synsonics drum machine, and a borrowed electric guitar. This is some of my first electric guitar work, which is painfully obvious. Hey, c'mon, I was like 19....
-
Piano and strings. Let's be honest: it's bit treacly.
